Flip Flop Divers

These twin rocks located south of Phi Phi Leh island are the most famous dive sites of the area.  These sites are large and one can easily make 2 to 3 separate dives on each island without repeating an area.  The shallow bay of Bida Nok is perfect for novice divers, while advanced divers can explore the beautiful submerged reef to the south-west of Bida Nai.

 

Bida Nok

 

Bida Nok ("The outer island") is located on the south side of Koh Phi Phi Ley.

The impressive coral reef is a wonder to explore. The north side consists of a wall decorated by multi-coloured soft coral. A group of sea fans and patchy staghorn coral sits upon a sloping reef on the east side.

A small bay rests to the south close to a large pinnacle decorated by multi-coloured soft corals, sea whips, sea fans and table coral. 

Blacktip Reef Sharks are more common to this dive site and are usually found in the shallows on the east side.

Leopard sharks, Turtles and Blue-Spotted Stingray can be seen here too. Don’t forget to look up as many times you may see schools of Squids and Crocodile needle fish swimming close together. 

 

 

Bida Nai

 

Bida Nai is a small (uninhabited) island located just next to Bida Nok.  This site along with neighboring island Bida Nok is one of the top dive sites in Thailand.  Swim around the island and drift along the 30m deep wall in the north, or between the pinnacles and swim-throughs running down the west coast.  Follow the huge patch of stag horn coral leading to ‘fantasy reef’, a colourful and pristine reef between 14-30 metres.

Large schools of barracuda can often be seen as well as the resident school of yellow snappers which stay around the pinnacles and above the stag horn coral.  Leopard sharks are often seen in the sand patches and black tip sharks can be seen swimming past you on your safety stop.  During high season keen eyed divers can search in the cracks in the wall for ghost pipefish, cleaner shrimp and seahorses.

 

 

Hin Bida

 

Hin Bida, otherwise known as Phi Phi’s Shark Point is found about 10km south of Phi Phi Leh – the uninhabited Phi Phi Island.

It is a small rocky outcrop that just protrudes above the surface of the water, while underwater you are greeted with boulders, white sand and a staghorn coral reef.

 

The submerged rocky pinnacle is surrounded by hard corals and granite channels. It is a fairly shallow site that slopes gently down to a sandy area all the way around the outside at about 25metres.

There are plenty of soft yellow corals and anemones on the south side where you can see anemonefish, anemone crabs, cuttlefish, octopus, moray eels and large schools of snappers. We have also had eagle rays swimming past and the odd turtle munching on the corals.

The highlight of course is the chance to see the beautiful, graceful leopard sharks that are residents here but its a great site anyway with lots to see.
